Recently the Spore Creature Creator was released. I’ve been playing around with the trial version and you can come up with some pretty cool - albeit weird looking - creatures.
Since this is only a trial version, you don’t have access to all of the different items there are to make up your creature. But there is a pretty decent selection to give it a go. I really can’t wait for the game to come out!
A couple of weeks ago I recieved a message through flickr saying that one of my photos has been selected for an online travel guide, and would it be okay to use it. Of course I didn’t decline this request and promptly filled out all me details confirming that they could use the picture. Today I recieved another message saying that my photo had passed screening and would definately be used in the guide.
The guide is called Schmap and the photo is for Harewood house in Leeds. It’s one of the pictures I took whilst watching Iggy Pop last summer. I’m really chuffed that the image got used and has been published. You can view the original image here and the image in the guide here.
It hasn’t all been about working on Rave on Air these past few weeks. I just recently completed a Flash website for a friend - who studies broadcasting - about Lonely Planet. The footage was filmed in Morocco, and then uploaded so that I could turn it into a website. Due to the style of the website, I decided that a Flash based site would work best.
From what I hear the reception from Lonely Planet was very good. However someone on their team has already come up with a similar idea already. Perhaps if we had been a year earlier things would have turned out differently. I’m not sure if I can upload the final piece however as Lonely Planet only permitted use of their branding as a portfolio piece, so I don’t know if I’m allowed to put it on the internet. However it will be a good offline piece.
So Rave on Air 2008 is over. On the one hand I’m pleased; this project has been pretty tough and there’s been a lot of ups and downs. But then I guess that’s to be expected of any project, especially something that you’ve never done before. On the other hand it was great fun and a brilliant learning experience. It was something we’ve never done before, and it presented a great challenge. It’s opened my eyes to a lot of future possibilities and careers; it never hurts to branch out a little.
Today was day one of Rave on Air. The day for friends and family. Tomorrow shall be the final test when all the delegates from various companies come to see what we’ve done.
