Pods

Pods allows visitors to discover museums in a simple, easier way

The Pods system augments current museum facilities and expands them, enriching the user experience and allowing visitors to discover museums in a simple, easier way

Pods make use of iPod Touch technology to allow users to interact with the museum environment. Visitors can rent an iPod Touch from the museum, whilst visitors with their own iPhone or iPod Touch are able to install the Pods Network application.

RFID technology is built into the iPod Touch case in order to make use of the information and prints services. Users with their own iPod Touch must make use of a Pods Network membership card.

The Pods services range from simple tasks such as events information and directions, to location specific content generated by visitors. In order to enhance the museum experience for children, Pods has made use of the camera functions built within the iPod Touch to allow children to record and share their view of the museum; children’s images can then be shared with other visitors, friends and family.

Pods also has considerable room for expansion due to the nature of its user generated content as well as the constantly growing features and exhibits found within museums. The possibility for expansion is only limited by the ways in which the users of Pods take advantage of its services.
